Latest MOC Project: Serenity

Realized I never told the community about this...

My latest MOC is an attempt to build Serenity (the ship from Firefly). I had originally started it at minifig scale, but had to move back to 1/2 minifig due to lack of pieces. As it is, I've had to order special bits several times. It's not done yet - probably have another couple of weekends to go at a minimum. But you get the idea.

(Click for a bigger view of this shot.)

I've had to make some concessions to my original vision - this thing is far too huge to ever "swoosh" about the room without a 120% chance of dropping and shattering.

So - I've built it for easy sectional disassembly. The engines are removable at the rotation joint, and the engine section slots into the cargo area. The "light ring" has yet to be built - the red bricks you can see above are actually part of a 4" or so gap where that'll go. And of course the bridge is still missing, but you can see where the light is/will be.

Here's a few from the rear, with the engine covers closed. The gap isn't as obvious from this angle. (Click for a bigger view of this shot.)

Same angle, engine covers open. The rear section lights up on a separate battery pack from the lights in the cargo/bridge area.

Click here for a really huge view from the front quarter. You can also make out the light in the cabin area if you squint.

would you consider it scale size?

Well, I'm doing my best to match it to schematics - it'll be about 3.5' long when finished, and Serenity is 150' long according to my sources. So it's roughly 1:43 scale.

Nope - I wanted to finish this before I saw it, strange as that seems.

spread the lego/Firefly goodness!

Can you post this (or a link to this entry) to [info]fireflyfans? If you can't or don't want to join, can I post a link there?

Re: spread the lego/Firefly goodness!

Go ahead and post a link if you'd like - I should have a "final" product ready for show in a couple of weeks though, if you'd rather wait for an "official" unveiling....
